Axle bolts and nuts as received.
The metal plate above is not
included and was made by me.
I also marked the BT (Back Top)
with a punch so everything lines
up.
Bolts plug welded to the
mounting plates
To true up the
plate and bolt, a
vise is used. My
vise did not have
the required reach,
so improvise....
Worked perfect.
Welding jacket put
over the strap to
protect it.
Partially welded. All 6 sides
were welded 2 times with deep
penetration MIG welds.
Fully welded axles. I cleaned
them up in a lathe mainly so the
bolt heads would have
clearance. Also sandblasted the
heads. These will be
powdercoated after mock-up.
My template mount lined up for
drilling. You get 1 shot at doing
this correctly, so take your time!
I used a hand drill to start the
holes. I then used a drill press
to get them straight though.
Axles mount perfectly and can
be swapped without problem.
I am keeping the mount plate
template to make any future
production of repair parts easy.
Main strap made from scratch to
mount main gear.
The stretch plans show directly
bolting the gear to the fuselage.
My design is from the older
sonerai's. Many people prefer
this method. Info can be found
in the back issues of the
Sonerai Newsletter.

Tailwheel assembly
completed.
Tailwheel bracket has to
be drilled when you
receive it.
Notice the mounting
tube on the end. This is
now welded to the
fuselage.
